Designed a platform that forecast upcoming harvests.

Overview

Nature Sweet Mexico, asks us for help because he needs to update the current platform, which fulfills the role of a Planning Simulator. This platform helps users make estimates and projections on the harvest of different vegetables. With the help of historical data and additional variables such as temperature, wind, humidity, substrate and others, Planning Simulator users can calculate how many tons will be harvested, thanks to work done by our team.

Oportunities

Nature Sweet faced challenges due to relying on external platforms (Prospera and Excel) that did not have the right tools to support their objectives. These platforms also lacked the necessary flexibility to meet Nature Sweet's needs.

Initial state

Process

We decided to use design thinking because Nature Sweet’s team had never faced working with user-centred or even agile methodologies; therefore, design thinking is a methodology that is easy to understand, explain, and is focused on innovatively solving problems, which was the best option in this particular case.

User interviews

"I wish the current platform was more flexible and could handle variables like weather changes or changes in soil composition. It's hard to get an accurate projection when you can't account for those factors."

“Using the current platform can be quite time-consuming, especially when there's a need to manually enter a significant amount of data. It would be fantastic if there were ways to automate certain processes"

"The current platform can be time-consuming to use, especially when you have to enter a lot of data manually. It would be great if there was a way to automate some of the processes to save time and reduce errors."

“It can be really annoying when the current platform lacks the necessary tools to make accurate projections for our vegetable. This limitation can result in unexpected shortages or excess produce going to waste.

"It's frustrating when the current platform doesn't have the right tools to make accurate projections for our vegetable harvests. It can lead to unexpected shortages or excess produce that goes to waste."

“It would be great if the current platform could offer more flexibility and accommodate variables such as weather changes or shifts in soil composition. It becomes challenging to obtain accurate projections.

Pain points

- They want only one transversal platform that allows users to see all the information.

- Not having the possibility of making a deep analysis within the planning. (limited options)

- There was some uncertainty among users because they were not sure if their actions had been saved.

Workshops

Our team has the opportunity to travel to Mexico to get to know all the facilities, real users and stakeholders. On this business trip, we collected a lot of information to create the entire experience of the new platform. Below are some photos of the experiences where I was the leading facilitator oriented to the experience and the business

Insights from research

01

There is a lack of ease in the planning and data ingestion process.

02

On the old platform, help tickets needed to be generated when an issue occurred; this could take days to resolve.

03

It isn't straightforward to access all crops and plants in a few clicks. - Users want to be able to make changes to harvest cycles in the future and the past.

04

Users need a space with virtual facilities, which allow users to "play in a sandbox" to make better predictions and accurate estimates within existing facilities.
